To maintain the law and order in the Tricity, Chandigarh police is doing everything beyond their limits. The UT police department issued a report on the total number of drug peddlers captured this year so far. There were 208 drug peddlers who were arrested by Chandigarh police in different sectors from January to November 15.
They were arrested with different kinds of psychoactive substances including ganga, poppy husk, charas, and heroin. According to the report, most of the drug peddlers were arrested with ganga (336.8kg). Others were with poppy husk (42.58kg) and charas (20kg).
Chandigarh police have also recovered 1,502 banned vials, 3,620 tablets, 5,602 capsules, and 600 syrups from the drug peddlers throughout the period. After taking the drug peddlers into remand, most of them admitted about bringing the banned medicines from Saharanpur and Ambala. They bought these medicines for Rs. 40-50 per vial and were trying to sell them for Rs. 250 or more.
Some of the accused have admitted to sold heroin for Rs. 3,000 to 5,000 per gram. These drug peddlers were arrested with a huge amount of banned substances. Chandigarh police captured them before they could dispense all the stuff into the Tricity.
Charanjit Singh Virk is the DSP, PRO in Chandigarh Police. He said that the UT police is fully intolerant when someone attempts to break the law and order in the Tricity, especially for drug trafficking cases. All the police stations have been ordered to eradicate the illegal drugs from their perimeters.
