Chandigarh Traffic Police have Issued Over 2 Lakh Challans in 10 Months of 2019

Chandigarh traffic police have issued a total of 2,17,165 traffic challans covering 2,62,103 violations in the first 10 months this year. The maximum share of challans falls in the category of driving without helmet, which stands at 59,069. And zebra crossing violation accounts for a total of 42,29 challans. There are 31,839 miscellaneous violations out of the total number of violations until now in 2019.

Another thing which has come to notice is that the number of traffic violations has reduced post the implementation of the New Motor Vehicle Act since Sep 5 this year. In the newly introduced MV act, the fine for traffic rules violation has increased manifold times. And the focus of Chandigarh traffic police has shifted to spreading awareness drives due to festive season. Out of all the 2,62,103 traffic violations, a total of 31,839 miscellaneous violations have been noticed. The data available also highlights that 162 minors have been found driving their motor vehicles without driving licenses.

In comparison to the year 2018, the number of challans this year is less. Last year, a total of 2,35,246 people were issued challans for violations of traffic rules in Chandigarh.  The number of challans for driving without a helmet was 59,791 and the total challans issued for wrong parking were 40,752.

Since it is the inception of festival season in the UT, the focus of traffic police is to ensure the best possible management of traffic. About 250 UT police personnel have been sent to Haryana for election duty and 55 cops out of 250 have been attached with the UT traffic police. Other than maternity leave, all the other leave applications of the police personnel are canceled. And written orders have been issued to all police stations in charges for not sanctioning the leave.
