The EC (Election Commission) of India today placed a ban over release of the much awaited biopic based on the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This decision was taken by the SC a day prior to the release of the movie given the start of poll season. The movie was slated to be released on 11th April.
According to the Election Commission, any movie that adds to the purpose of an individual or political entity during the poll seasons should be avoided from display over electronic media. This ban is also applicable to the broadcasting of the NaMo TV which is a 24/7 channel that focuses primarily on rallies and speeches by Narendra Modi and the senior BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leaders.
The initial phase of the Lok Sabha elections is to start on 11th April which is a Thursday. This biopic starring Vivek Oberoi as PM Narendra Modi received its “Universal” certificate provided by the CBFC or Central Board of Film Certification a few hours prior to the ban by Election Commission.
On Wednesday, Oberoi was meant to speak with the media in Nagpur City. However, it had to be cancelled after the announcement of ban on release by the Election Commission.
