Gujarat may introduce new law to ban online gambling

The government of Gujarat has recently initiated the preliminary discussions for exploration of a possibility that amends the existing legislation for gambling. This change is to be introduced to Gujarat Prevention of Gambling Act that might soon cover betting and gambling act initiated online.

The said changes are under discussion due to request from the officials at the Ahmedabad Police Department who stated that the current rules and regulations against gambling & betting are limited to the physical versions of the same which isn’t stringent enough in real sense.

AK Singh, the police commissioner at Ahmedabad Police confirmed that the Home Department at Gujarat & the officials working with CID have recent held several meetings for discussions of the changes to be brought about in the gambling laws.

Further, Singh stated that the government at the State has been working on this issue to ensure the people that have been indulging in the line of online gambling can be handled as per the rules elaborated in the modified law.

The present gambling law doesn’t give the police department proper power to enforce action against the social malefactors involved in online gambling. The meetings also discussed a ban over online poker game.
