Hit and Run: Delivery Boys Dragged by BMW

Food home delivery, a blessing for today’s generation, which facilitates you to have your favourite meal from your choice picked restaurant, get delivered at your doorstep, while you enjoy watching your favourite shows. It has become a trend now and people are just loving it.

Well, this might not sound so interesting if we look at the other side. While we just order the food with the touch of a button or a phone call, there are these delivery boys, who work round the clock, tolerating all conditions, for us to have our favourite meal with comfort at our home. Two such delivery boys, who were on their duty to deliver pizza, were hit by a BMW Car in the early Sunday hours, near the Baltana Crossing in Panchkula- Zirakpur road of Mohali.

The boys, namely Honey and Ankit, both aged 18, were on their way to Zirakpur to do their daily chore of delivering an item. At around 2 AM, as they reached near Baltana Crossing, they got hit by a BMW car from back, which was coming from Panchkula.

An observer, who captured the entire deplorable accident in his eyes shared the intensity of the misadventure describing that as soon as the car hit the boys from back, one of the boys hurled in the air. In succession to this, he fell on the car’s windscreen. Blatantly, the driver dragged Honey and Ankit along with their scooter up to about 800 metres.

Alerted, the bystanders followed the car and managed to stop it. Apparently, the driver was beaten up by all the passers-by. Nevertheless, the driver managed to escape, leaving the car on the spot.

The boys suffered vital injuries. At first, they were rushed for medical treatment at government hospital, situated in sector 60 of Mohali. However, unable to get a proper treatment over there, they were shifted to Chandigarh at Government Medical College and Hospital, where they are being treated now.

According to the Investigating officer, ASI Nirmal Singh, the driver had met with yet another accident in Panchkula before he had hit the scooter. The car has been seized and a FIR has been lodged against the driver. The vehicle, registered at Mohali with registration number (PB – 65 – AE – 0017) will help to identify the driver.

One among the two boys is reported to be in critical condition. As per the latest developments in the investigation, officials said that when the car hit the scooter from the back, the car’s front part got hold of the scooter in some way and as the driver drove the car, the scooter also got dragged along.
