Huawei says delay in 5G spectrum allotment for trails could impact India’s 5G ambitions

On Tuesday, Huawei said that if sufficient compatible spectrum allotment to conduct trails of the ultra-fast 5G tech-based services isn’t made by the government to Indian telecom industry swiftly then this could impact and hurt the country’s 5G ambitions.

As per a report by IANS, David Wang, Huawei Executive Director and head of ICT strategy has also indicated that the telecom market in India is presently facing excess competition.

The Chinese telecom gear major wants to see the country become much more attractive when it comes to 5G. The company hopes to witness more of changes in the Indian telecom market, however, there’s a lack of adequate spectrum for 5G services business that could affect India’s 5G services, Wang added.

Ken Hu, the Huawei Deputy Chairman said that growth constraints of 4G in the country shouldn’t be repeated again as these previously made it hard for the telecom operators to gain profits from 4G spectrum due to excess competition in telecom market.

Huawei said that the company is already in the list of invitee of the Indian government to conduct trials of 5G. The company has undertaken demo trails of 5G at the Indian Mobile Congress, along with Reliance Jio and Airtel. Though the operators ask for a minimum trail period of one year, the Indian government says that it can only allot the spectrum for 90 day trails.

Well, one will have to wait and see what decision the government takes to make 5G services a success in India.
