Motor Market of Chandigarh on Protest

A recent survey done in one of the dry states showed that after the alcohol was prohibited, the quantity of the food intake has increased in homes, the children are able to attend tuitions and ladies are getting to drink more milk. Liquor is forbidden in some states of the country, which has certainly delivered some positive outcome. But there are many other states where liquor is still available in every other street.

However, few people are in complete oppose to any such business running in their areas, be it a market or a residential zone. They believe that neither any alcohol business has been carried out in their region till date nor they want one to.

One such incident has been reported in Chandigarh, where people took out a protest to slam a shop selling alcohol. As per the details given by Karan Singh, a shopkeeper at Motor market in Sector 48, it was only when they saw a few workers cleaning kiosk, that they came to know about the liquor trade that will be carried out in their area very soon. Knowing this, all shopkeepers, convened to oppose. They sat ahead of the market in a way which jammed the roads.

The traders were soon asked to abandon the protest by the police officers of Sector 49. The hawkers then, reached the BJP office located in Sector 33, and notified about the unwanted liquor trade to the BJP heads.

Khuda Lahora resident, Gurminder Singh, revealed that as soon as they heard that an owner has rented a shop to an alcohol trade proprietor, they decided to have a meeting with the shop owner and persuade him to not allot the same. They did the same and succeeded in the task.

Nonetheless, they were stunned to see a liquor shop opened on Saturday in their area. This sight tormented them and left them feeling dejected. The residents and the shopkeepers immediately decided to revolt. They carried out a protest against the shop owner.

It was only after intervention from the police of Sector 11, that the people calmed a bit and submitted a complaint. The revolt was aborted when the cops guaranteed that they would put forward this accusation to the excise and taxation department.
