Nagapattinam district collector goes for an inspection of vote counting centre

On Tuesday, the returning officer for the Mayiladuthurai Lok Sabha constituency went for an inspection of AVC College, whose strong rooms will be stored with the EVMs coming from 1511 polling centres till the vote counting day.

The Mayiladuthurai segments comprises of Poompuhar, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam, Sirkazhi, Papanasam and Thiruvidaimaruthur assembly constituencies. On April 18, the election commission hopes that around 14.66 lakh voters, which include 7.39 lakh women, 7.27 lakh male as well as fifty others, to cast their vote.

Contending for the esteemed seat are S Ramalingam of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, S Asaimani of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, U Habeeb Mohamed of All Pensioners’ Party, Kalyan Sundaram of Bahujan Samaj Party, M Refayudeen of Makkal Needhi Maiam, K Subashini of Naam Tamilkar Katchi as well as 21 independents.

Upon reaching the college, the Nagapattinam district collector enquired on the protection allotted to the EVMs. He later directed the officials to arrange separate passages for the politicians and officers during the vote counting time.

The collector also inspected the election observers, first aid room as well as press room and instructed officials to have all the requirements arranged properly and in place. M Inthumathi, revenue officer was also present during the inspection.
