Paper Returns Work will Take Time Due to the Current World Crisis

IRS is facing issues as due to the pandemic, their resources, both funding and staffing, are on the decline. The staffers are being called back to resume certain operations but every one is clueless when the work on paper returns will begin.

According to filemytaxesonline, IRS received more than 133.8 million tax returns by the end of May, out of which 121.1 million have been processed. The agency has issued 90.5 million refunds, with an average value of $2,770.

Americans have been thinking about the impact of coronavirus pandemic on their economic status and have realized that they haven’t still got the tax Return of 2019 from the IRS. Everyone is in panic situation but few have realized that the refund hasn’t come or why has there been a delay.

The tax agency has released a statement recently. They have talked about the limitations of certain services which included the processing of tax returns paper. The statement mentions that they are working under extremely limited resources and services due to the pandemic.

Certain services have been suspended since quite a time and they are bound to open only when the local health authorities approve which will take time. This is being done under compliance with the coronavirus-related orders of local health authorities.

The agency, thus, is not processing the return papers currently. The statement shared that right now with the limited resources they are focusing on working on electronic returns, issuing direct deposit refunds and accepting electronic payments. They have also urged via statement that the taxpayers will benefit if they file everything electronically. This is specifically for the people who haven’t filed a paper return.

People who have filed a paper return need not do it the second time. The paper return will be processed at a later time. The date for filling the tax has been extended to July 15 due to the pandemic. And subsequently, the first day to file taxes 2021 will also be affected.
