Rajasthan Education Minister Wants to Remove Male Teachers Below 50 Years from Schools

Govind Singh Dotasra, Rajasthan education minister has given a statement to the media regarding the solution to eve teasing in schools of Rajasthan. He has said that any male teacher who is below the age of 50 years will be removed from all government girls’ schools and no new young male teacher will be employed once the law is passed.

This is his idea to keep eve teasing in schools in check. He said these to the reporters in Mandawa in Jhunjhunu district (which is bound to go to the polls) and confirmed that female teachers would be given priority in girls’ schools in the state to make the students feel safe.

Dostara tweeted the same statement later. “I have sought the data (on male teachers) from all girls schools, the decision will be implemented only if we have required number of teachers,” he wrote. There has been a spike in the number of harassment cases involving male teachers so this is the measure the minister is willing to take.

The head of sociology department at Rajasthan University, Rashmi Jain, has said that this particular move is aimed to create schools which were run by only women. A former UNICEF policy planner KB Kothari has said that the minister has misdiagnosed the problem and the treatment that he has offered was wrong. This ‘idea’ of the minister of removing male teachers below the age of 50 is not a difficult task but it will spark fear among parents and students.
