Online shopping has proven to be quite beneficial in this pandemic and in ways that no one could have foreseen. While people have been left isolated due to social distancing and cannot move about outside of their homes, e-commerce shopping and facilities have made it easier for people to obtain basic amenities directly at home. Entrepreneur Ray Scott talks about the pivotal role played by e-commerce in the pandemic.
“E-commerce was on the rise even before the pandemic. But the pandemic drastically increased the growth of the e-commerce industry,” says Scott. COVID-19 showed people the immense advantages of the e-commerce industry. Even businesses and entrepreneurs realized that it was useful, partly due to the convenience that an online company provides. In May this year, globally, the e-commerce industry recorded a 77% increase in total profits over last year. While a majority percentage of sales were through physical retail outlets up until 2019, the pandemic shifted the focus of this shopping to the online retail sector. There has been a 20% increase in weekly online grocery shopping this year, up from 22% in 2018.
Scott believes that this trend will continue even after the pandemic has ended. He, too, made his career online when he started his entrepreneurial journey in 2014. He launched his first online store in 2016 as an Amazon seller. His dream was to expand his business online and become a renowned entrepreneurial brand. Consequently, he made $100k in the second half of 2016 and was more than confident enough to launch superiordropshipping.com, which has made quite the profit in the e-commerce sector due to the ongoing pandemic. This is advantageous to entrepreneurs like Scott. “Well, the pandemic made people realize that the e-commerce industry was a good way to get things you need without leaving the house. So, it is no wonder that experts believe customers will continue shopping online even after the COVID-19 pandemic is over,” adds Scott.
Thus far, the pandemic has proven to be a game changer in every field or sector in the world due to the pandemic. It remains to be seen how far things will go and how much we will adjust. Luckily, the e-commerce sector is here to stay!
