The upcoming Orlando, Florida screening for ‘The Firing Squad’ was full within 2 days with a waitlist of over 100 people. This is the impact this faith-based film is causing throughout the U.S. as eager moviegoers line up to watch one of the most compelling Christian films of perhaps the past two decades.
Reaching Timothy Chey by phone was no small task, but the director was extremely gracious. “This film is all about Jesus,” he says. “I’m a nobody. I’m just a vessel. The story shows that forgiveness in Christ is available to all. And I’m the chiefest of sinners. I told a group of fellow students one time that we should abolish Christianity and the Bible. That’s how much I hated Christians. But the Lord forgave me and set me on a mission to tell others about the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Chey, of course, is a Harvard and USC alumnus. He is also an attorney and worked for two of the top law firms in the U.S. But God had other plans for him to make films and his first film was a secular film for Universal Studios that he directed.
Chey found Christ in a hotel room after suffering a nervous breakdown shortly after directing the film for Universal.
“When I found Christ after my first film,” says Chey, “I only wanted to do films that would glorify Him.”
The much-anticipated movie, ‘The Firing Squad,’ has completed production and is poised to hit theaters across the nation in August 2024. This high-profile film promises to captivate audiences with its gripping narrative, based on the true story of former drug dealers turned pastors who faced the harrowing ordeal of a firing squad in a third-world country.
Starring a stellar cast including James Barrington, Madeline Anderson, Kevin Sorbo, Edmund Kwan, and Cuba Gooding, Jr., ‘The Firing Squad’ delves deep into a tale of redemption amidst seemingly insurmountable odds. The choice of these acclaimed actors underscores the gravity and emotional depth of the narrative, ensuring a powerful and compelling cinematic experience.
Guiding this ambitious project is the esteemed faith-based director, Tim Chey. Known for his impactful storytelling and previous successes such as ‘Freedom’ and ‘The Islands,’ Chey brings his expertise and passion to deliver a film that transcends mere entertainment. His vision for ‘The Firing Squad’ extends beyond the screen, aiming to inspire and touch the hearts of millions.
In a recent statement, Chey expressed his heartfelt aspirations for the film, saying, “My hope and prayer is this film wins millions to Christ. The story is the perfect testament to gaining the whole world but losing your soul. Fortunately, these guys found Christ in the end in a stunning, tear-jerking way.”
As the countdown begins towards its nationwide release, ‘The Firing Squad’ stands as a testament to resilience, faith, and the indomitable human spirit—a story that promises to resonate deeply and leave a lasting impression on audiences far and wide.
