Zar Baby is a young hip hop artist based on the south side of Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up in Stockbridge, Georgia and graduated from a private, Christian high school. The rapper explains that the suburban area he grew up in was low on crime, aesthetically pleasing, and very diverse. In order to make a living, Zar Baby’s mother executed medical billing to ensure that doctors were properly paid, and his father was a truck driver. Zar Baby was raised with one older brother, two older sisters, and one younger sister. He reminisces on times when his siblings would constantly fight and argue due to the large number of children residing in a tight space; however, he assures that he would not dare change the nature of his upbringing for any reason.
Zar Baby’s family essentially supports everything he does, and he considers himself a very family-oriented individual. He looks at his mother as one of his friends because he is able to discuss anything with her. He also remains close with his Dad, but Zar Baby mentions that his relationship with his father was strained when his parents divorced. Zar Baby was in the 6th grade at the time and seeing his father leave his household was extremely troublesome. Zar Baby’s father was the one who got him interested in sports, and Zar Baby was quite the athlete prior to becoming an artist. Basketball was Zar Baby’s sport of choice. He played the point guard and shooting guard position in high school, and he received a scholarship to play at the collegiate level. Zar Baby played a season of basketball during the one year he was enrolled at a division 2 school in Nebraska (Nebraska Christian College). After a year in Nebraska, Zar Baby transferred to another school to play basketball; however, he was ineligible to play based on being a transfer student. Zar Baby was familiar with the coach at the school he transferred to, but that coach left before he was eligible to play again. Zar Baby soon quit basketball and decided to focus on other interests at this time.
Before becoming a high school basketball star, Zar Baby enjoyed playing the drums. He played drums for his family’s local church when he was 7-years-old. In college, one of Zar Baby’s fellow basketball teammates heard him rap and suggested that he start taking music seriously. Now, Zar Baby is in the process of becoming the next hot artist in your music playlist.
